Proudly’s first impressions for the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season Two

With over a year of anticipation following Covid complications, on Thursday 14th January the long-awaited first episode for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 premiered.

The first episode of season two was broadcast earlier this week. Following on from the success of the first series Ru and Michelle have returned to find the UK’s latest drag superstar with 12 hopefuls looking to snatch the crown and join the drag race hall of fame with last years winner The Vivienne.

Bring it to the runway

12 new queens are bringing it to the runway this year for the new series that is guaranteed to be even ‘bigger‘ than last year with our very first Scottish (Ellie DiamondLawrence Chaney) and Welsh (Tayce) queens entering the werk room.

With sickening looks and iconic introduction videos, fans cannot wait to tune in each week to watch their favourite critically acclaimed drag competition and fall in love with each talented drag queen.

Here at Proudly we are huge fans of the show and were honoured to have been invited to have lunch (virtually of course) with the queens courtesy of BBC Three and we absolutely adore each queen who is competing.

A Proudly review of the queens

Every fan will have a certain queen that they relate to most and everybody tends to have a personal favourite in all competition-based reality shows.

This inspired the founder of Proudly Aaron Spencer and fashion guru and body positivity social media influencer Faith Hodgson to weigh in with our first impressions of all twelve queens competing. These opinions were solely based on their ‘Meet The Queens‘ introduction videos ahead of the premiere of season two of Rupauls Drag Race UK.

*We would like to confirm that all the content shared in this article was based off first impressions that me and Faith made before the first episode of drag race UK aired.*

Please appreciate the fact that these are just our opinions based on first impressions and everybody is entitled to different views. We may even change our minds after watching the first few shows.

Either way we hope you enjoy and we can’t express how excited we are to tune into BBC Three via the BBCIPlayer to watch RuPauls Drag Race UK season two every Thursday.

Our review of all the queens competing for the crown

London (Via Newport, Wales), 26

Tayce has made history becoming the first Welsh drag queen to appear on RuPaul’s Drag Race and this Welsh dragon will definitely be providing the fire for season 2 of @dragraceukbbc.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Here are Aaron and Faith’s first impressions of the Welsh wonder of the world who took a huge step for drag kind by putting the Newport queens on a drag race pedistool.

Tayce first impression

We believe that Tayce is entering drag race confidently and isn’t going about it quietly either.

Tayce has the weight of a nation resting on her shoulders to perform and one thing for certain is that Tayce is in the race to win it and nothing else.

An overall groundbreaking and remarkable first ruveal to the season two cast. We expect big things.

Joe Black

Brighton (Portsmouth), 30

Another competition first, Joe Black is the first-ever drag queen from Brighton to appear on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

This multitalented drag queen with over thirteen years of experience will be offering something drag race fans have not seen so far.

It is safe to say we are in for a spooktacular spectacle when Joe Black enters the werk room.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Joe Black first impression

Joe Black seems to be a very mysterious but shows signs of utter brilliance with their drag act.

Being the first drag race contestant from Brighton, Joe Black truly embodies the cabaret elements of the seaside city.

Paying homage to the legends that inspired her, Joe Black is entering the werk room to build on their own legacy and use their vast experience to make a big impact on the main stage of RuPauls Drag Race UK.

London (Via Nottinghamshire), 23

Declared ‘the fashion queen of the London scene‘ A’Whora is not like the stereotypical look queen.

This northern fashion designer will be providing something unexpected every time they enter a room.

We cannot wait to see some of A’Whora’s sickening looks strutting down the runway each week.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

A’Whora first impressions

Specialising in the looks department A’Whora is a fashion designer who knows how to turn heads when she enters a room.

Although do not let the looks fool you, A’Whora is more than a pretty face and she is ready to showcase her abilities and the possibilities for her in this competition are endless.

A’whora is definitely one to watch in season two and isn’t somebody who is looking to just play it safe. We assure you that A’Whora will be entering the werk room all guns blazing and will make it clear that she is taking this opportunity to make a statement.

Tia Kofi

London (via Essex and Nottingham), 30

We are entering the new year and bringing in a new generation of queens. Although @TiaKofi has built the foundation!

This versatile queen is providing killer looks, vocals and dance moves to match. Stepping away from her iconic drag trio girl group The Vixens to ‘Beyonce herself‘ it is time for Tia Kofi to smash it solo.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Tia Kofi first impressions

Tia Kofi really is a triple threat that is offering something we believe hasn’t ever been seen before on the drag race main stage.

Despite not knowing how to sow, Tia Kofi clearly has imagination with a clear vision on how she wants to look that will see her through the design challenges.

As a member of drag band, The Vixens were voted the Best Cabaret Act in 2019, the band have since become household names within the drag community and Tia Kofi is entering RuPauls Drag Race UK to ‘Beyoncé herself‘.

Tia Kofi made a statement in her introduction video that really resonates with me which was ‘If you don’t know where you came from, you won’t know where you are going‘. Wise words from a very smart well-rounded queen.

Ellie Diamond

Dundee, 21

Dundee Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

Ellie Diamond became the first Scottish drag queen to be announced as a cast member for the upcoming RuPaul’s Drag Race lineup.

Although one thing is for sure this eccentric larger than life six foot four queen is looking to achieve more than just representing.

Ellie Diamond wants to make herstory by becoming not only the first Scottish winner of drag race but the youngest ever winner too.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Ellie Diamond first impression

When Ellie Diamond was announced for RuPauls Drag Race season two it was a monumental moment as Ellie became the first-ever Scottish drag queen to be announced for the competition in its history.

A truly larger than life character in more ways than one, this 6″4 queen McDonald’s worker by day is looking to swap serving fries to serving killer looks on the main stage. Not to mention all her looks were self-designed and are truly immaculate.

We have zero doubts that Ellie Diamond will be providing us with memorable runway moments each week. Although do not believe for a second that this is all that Ellie brings to the table.

With a sense of humour, an eccentric personality and an overall kind-hearted soul to match, it is truly hard to believe that this queen is only 21 years of age.

It truly shows that experience does not matter if you have sheer talent and Ellie has it all in abundance.

Sister Sister

Liverpool, 32

I went from painting on canvases to painting on my face instead.”

Residing in the same city as last years winner The Vivienne, could Merseyside retain the crown in season 2?

After watching Sister Sister’s introduction video one thing is clear, we will be screaming their name until we are blue in the face.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Sister Sister first impressions

This Liverpudlian has some really huge heels to fit following the last drag race Liverpool queen being series one winner The Vivienne.

Not one to compare though, Sister Sister is on drag race to fulfil her own destiny. Possessing their own individual traits to stand out from the crowd, she specialises in dry comedy that will make them memorable for sure. We can tell that we will have many meme moments that will come from for Sister Sister during the competition.

Stating in their ‘Meet The Queens‘ segment that ‘it isn’t good enough just to have one talent‘ do not think for a second that Sister Sister is a one trick queen.

We have high hopes for what this Scouse queen has to offer to the main stage of RuPauls Drag Race UK.

Veronica Green

London (Via Rochdale), 34

Veronica Green will be bringing the glitz and the glam to the drag race UK mainstage but @veronicaqween is more than just a show queen.

This is what you call the full package. Veronica has entered @dragraceukbbc for a fun time and a long time too.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Veronica Green first impressions

This WestEnd Wendy is ready to be the star of the show and is ready to take another stage by storm.

With a show girl background, we believe in the Rusical and singing challenges Veronica will be the one to watch. Nobody will be raining on her parade for sure.

Not one to just fade into the background, we believe Veronica Green will be one to surprise us all and be a dark horse in the competition.

We are definitely green with envy for this blossoming queen.

Bimini Bon Boulash

London (via Norfolk), 26

I am East London’s bendiest queen.”

When Barbie meats Shirley Carter down the Vic you get Bimini Bon Boulash.

What could be more fitting to an East London queen than a crown?

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Bimini Bon Boulash first impressions

Our expectations sky rocketed when we saw Bimini Bon Boulash for the first time.

Offering something we haven’t seen before, Bimini will guarantee to turn heads with their sickening looks and smash any acting challenges with their ever growing confidence.

With cheekbones to die for and a monarch corset styled outfit that blew us away in their ‘Meet The Queens‘ segment, Bimini is making us very excited to see what sort of outfits and looks they will bring to the season two of RuPauls Drag Race UK.

Bimini Bon Boulash is a real mouthful and i’m sure we will keep our mouths open in shock with everything they will bring to our screens each week.

Ginny Lemon

Worcestershire, (Birmingham based performer) 31

Hiya Babs! Fancy a slice?!” (We have been hearing this every time we close our eyes since the announcement).

The yellow crocs, the Kate Bush finger tattoos, the iconic catchphrase, the list of wonderful and wacky things we saw in Ginny’s introduction video is endless.

Born in Worcestershire but synonymous with the Birmingham drag scene, Ginny Lemon is renowned for their out of this world characteristics and personality traits that make them so beloved.

One thing we can promise fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race stans is that there will never be anybody quite like Ginny Lemon on the show again.

From Proudly and all the Birmingham based writers on this blog, we are so proud of you and we can’t wait to see you bring it each week on the mainstage bab.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Ginny Lemon first impression

Ginny Lemon is already a household name for all West Midlands LGBTQ+ community members and now they are taking the world by storm too. Proudly know that Ginny is going to become a national treasure in no time.

As a Birmingham based blog, Ginny will be our one to watch this series for sure. They have really changed the game with their style by bringing the world of alternative drag to the runway.

We cannot express how excited we are to see Ginny showcasing their talent, killer comedy skills and showing the world what they have to offer.

I’m sure we can all agree that after watching Ginny’s ‘Meet the Queens‘ video we all fancy a slice of Ginny Lemon.

Ginny and Bimini Bon Boulash are really doing it for all the non binary queens out there and we can’t wait to see the sort of looks Ginny will be bringing to the runway each week.

Come on, what is not to love about our Ginny?

Asttina Mandella

London, 27

A star can’t be made; a star is born and it’s my time to be the star!”

The ‘backing dancer’ is now taking centre stage. @AsttinaMandella you are BEAUTIFUL!! We cannot wait to see you shine in your spotlight that you have earned on @dragraceukbbc

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Asttina Mandella first impression

Astinna Mandella is more than just a look queen but oh my God isn’t she stunning?! That body, those thighs and that overall killer look, Asttina really makes streetwear look like highstreet brand fashion.

Asttina is somebody we believe will go far in the competition but if one week she may slip then good luck to the other bottom because Asttina is the true definition of a ‘Lip Sync Assassin‘.

Making a name for herself as a backup dancer for artists such as Kanye West, Asttina is finally taking centre stage for RuPauls Drag Race UK.

We believe that Astinna Mandella is one of the front runners in this competition.

Cherry Valentine

Darlington, 26

For those who say I haven’t been doing drag long enough, take a look… I’m a queen!”

The devil is in the details and @TheCValentine has EVERYTHING! This introduction gave us goosebumps. We can’t wait to see you paint the @dragraceukbbc runway red.

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Cherry Valentine first impression

This Darlington queen (as a Geordie girl, Faith was very excited for Cherry’s announcement) will be serving us all the looks and promises so much this season. Cherry really is a triple threat.

Always turns up looking like a million dollars, Cherry is very extroverted and confident with a very kind heart.

We at Proudly have a special place in our hearts for the down to earth more maternal queens who are willing to help others in need. As a qualified mental health nurse since 2015, we can tell that Cherry Valentine will be there to advise and offer support for all the rest of the queens competing.

Although do not let Cherry’s kindness be taken for weakness, this is a competition after all.

Cherry Valentine is entering the season two werk room and we promise you that she won’t be leaving anytime soon.

Lawrence Chaney

Glasgow, 23

This queen is everything you’re imagining a Scottish person to be and more.

@ShadyLawrence is bringing the energy we need to take into 2021.

Scotland is truly representing this year with two fierce queens looking to take the crown for the blue and white country.

Proudly are declaring Lawrence Chaney as the one to watch this year and from the upbeat yet passionate introduction video, Lawrence Chaney is our early pick for Miss Congeniality (if the UK had one).

Source: Instagram – Dragraceukbbc

Lawrence Chaney first impression

Source: YouTube – @RuPaulsDragRace

Proudly believe that Lawrence Chaney is the standout queen from the cast announcements in so many different ways. Self-declared as ‘Scottish drag royalty‘, Lawrence is fully aware of the talents she possesses and the possibilities are truly endless during drag race and after the competition has finished.

Our faces were glued to the screens right from the beginning of her ‘Meet The Queens‘ video and we believe that this will be similar for all drag race viewers throughout this season. Lawrence Chaney has star power and is an early favourite to win.

We all want a best friend like Lawrence who will leave us crying with laughter every time we see her on our screens. Lawrence’s bubbly personality ties in beautifully with her iconic style that will wow the judges and all the public watching each week that will leave us wanting more.

Lawrence Chaney could possibly become the first-ever plus-size drag queen to win any season of RuPauls Drag Race and we assure you that nobody will be complaining.

Lawrence Chaney is mine and Faith’s predicted winner of RuPauls Drag Race UK season two based off first impressions of all the queens.

RuPauls Drag Race UK season two overview

We are honestly so obsessed with all the queens who are here to save 2021. This is exactly what everybody needs right now, light-hearted entertainment that gives us something to look forward to each week.

With so much promise, we know season two will be worth the wait for sure and we cannot wait to see what these queens bring to the MainStage and fly the flag for UK drag.

A huge thank you goes out to my good friend Faith who took the time out to speak with me to review all the queens competing for the crown. Please spread the love and give her a follow on Instagram to add some body positivity content to your timeline. If you want to find out more about Faith you can read her Proudly exclusive story here.

Overall we can’t express how excited we are to watch the new series of RuPauls Drag Race UK every Thursday at 7pm on BBCIPlayer.

Good luck and may the best queen win!
